So you are planning a party. You’ve got beer and friends on the way and need more ideas for entertainment. You think back to other parties you have been to. Beer pong is always a hit! As an added bonus, the rules are very simple. All you need is beer pong tables, ping pong balls, and your alcohol of choice. You can use a any regular table but you need to be sure you don’t mind beer spilling on it. If you have a lot of parties or just play a lot of beer pong, it is worth investing in a beer pong table since they are longer and built especially for beer pong.

Teams stand on opposite sides of the table and set up cups, usually plastic, in bowling alley style (like pins.) Fill each cup up about a quarter of the way with beer. If you are using plastic cups you can use the ribs on the side to make sure they are all evenly filled. Usually each side has 10 cups but smaller “racks” of cups can be used for shorter games.

If you are playing singles, meaning one member of each time shoots at a time, one person from each team will go up to the table and try to make their ping pong ball go into the opponents cup. They both shoot one at a time. If your ball makes it into your opponents cup, the opponent must drink the beer in that cup and remove it from the game. You are allowed one bounce on the beer pong table with your ball before it lands in a cup.

Now, these are just the basic rules. Many people like to introduce house rules or special rules to make the game more tough. Some may use liquor rather than beer. A favorite house rule includes allowing the ball to bounce from anything including walls or the ceiling before the ball must land in a cup.
